Menopause Awareness has been created to consolidate online resources for women who are experiencing menopause, or have questions about menopause, or have been through the process and have comments that may be valuable to others.
Menopause will affect every woman who has been through puberty and does not die before middle age – some will experience the end of hormone production due to surgery that induces it at an earlier than it would occur normally – but the current generation of 50-ish year old women are at some stage of menopause.
As I began to experience symptoms about 2 years ago, I looked for information on the web and saw my doctor (as you perhaps have), and then began to talk to women I know in my general age range. One thing became apparent: resources for women experiencing the symptoms of menopause are lean. Time has shown me that my lack of knowledge about menopause is common, and I’ve also learned that it isn’t something people, male or female, want to talk about. Women feel that interest in the subject makes them old, and the subject seems to make my male contemporaries uncomfortable (perhaps because they so often absorb the shock menopausal women can produce!).
All that said, I believe menopause awareness should be increased, and I was delighted to learn there is an official month dedicated to the process that affects so many people.
Visit this site to find menopause resources, read humorous observations about the symptoms and experiences that accompany menopause, and read my thoughts on menopause awareness and other issues impacting baby boomers. Thanks and enjoy!
